Exchange of Contracts

The penultimate step of the home selling process is the exchange of signed contracts. This requires a non-refundable deposit to the legal representative that binds the buyer and seller to the contract and sale stipulations. Should one party renege on the agreement prior to completion of signed contracts, they are legally bound to forfeit their exchange monies, usually amounting to 10% of the property sale price.

Completion of Contracts

The final step is the completion of signed contracts. This is where the balance of monies, usually 90%, are paid over to the seller by the legal representative. It is on this day that you have legally sold your property and both parties move.
